Holley People News '64 Ford Falcon Sprint with Original Charm

Think all sales people wear suits?  Not at Holley.  Ours wear t-shirts and have grease under their fingernails just like you. One of our west coast sales reps, Scott McLaughlin, is a prime example.
 
In 1998, Scott was devastated when he found his first ’64 Ford Falcon parked in front of his house in a condition he didn't leave it in. A 16-year-old behind the wheel of his parent's Volvo managed to total the Falcon while it was parked. The body was too mangled to repair so Scott set out to find another one. He located this second owner ’64 Falcon Sprint with no engine or transmission. That was ok with Scott as he would have removed the stock engine anyway. He opted for a prime 302 block with factory internals topped with a Weiand Street Warrior intake with a 650-cfm Holley carb. He didn’t need this car to be lightning-fast, just fun to scoot around town. The 4-speed transmission and 9” positraction rear end helped in those efforts.
 
“I had built the little motor for it in 2001. I went for the first test drive and was highly impressed with it.  When I got back to my Dad’s shop he asked if he could take it for a spin. I said ‘sure, be careful, we still need to put the 9” in it.’  About ten minutes later, Dad decided that it would be a good idea to side step the clutch at about 3,000 RPM. Needless to say we found out just how weak the original 8” rear end was.  The pinion crawled out of the case, the driveshaft spit out, and we ran it over. I will never forget seeing the driveshaft twirl in the middle of the intersection on end - makes me smile every time I think about it!  At the time I was upset at him, but it has become one of my favorite stories to tell.” –Scott McLaughlin
 
The future holds a more potent 302 engine as this stocker style engine was put in place for his old 120-mile a day commute. Now that it’s a car for fun and not a daily driver, he can put some punch into the engine that he couldn’t before. Don’t let the pretty picture fool you he says, the passenger's side is factory black paint but the driver’s side is primer. That’s also on his to-do list.
